The new sidekick

Yes Sidekick, as in those rectangular brick smartphones with the swively screen which were very popular last decade. Through out my highschool years everyone had a sidekick., I had two. The popularity started with the Sidekick 3. But there were sooo many. There was the Sidekick 1, The Sidekick 2, The Sidekick 3, The Sidekick ID, The Sidekick LX, The Sidekick Slide, The Sidekick 08, and The Sidekick 09. Around October 2009 the unthinkable happened. There was trouble with the tower that all sidekick users received internet service from and service was down on everyone's sidekick for THREE DAYS. As a sidekick user I know that most of us didn't text very often, we used AIM. Which we couldn't without internet service. After this many users were fed up. Most sidekick owners only had t-mobile to have a sidekick and switched to AT&T or Verizon. Whereas the consumers who stuck with t-mobile switched to the G1, G2, My Touch or most popular The Blackberry. But service being down for three days was not the only reason for the switch. The newer sidekicks were shitier, lack of a better term. In my opinion, the Sidekick 2 was the best sidekick out of all of them. It was better than the 1, and not as bad as the following. At a certain point Sidekick 3's that people had for over a year were missing buttons and just didn't work right. It is almost impossible to find someone with a Sidekick 3 in good condition. Each of the newer phones would lose internet service for a short time randomly, for no reason. The camera on each phone besides the Sidekicks 08 and 09 were crappy. and Soon enough the battery life on each of the sidekicks would be gone! I understand that they are smart phones and you use them for a lot at one time but after nearly a year of having my Sidekick 08 the battery would die every day although I charged it every night. Then after charging it and the battery was fully charged it would die after 10 minutes. These phones were far too overrated and overpriced (about $300). I was so glad to never see a side kick again until now.

Introducing the all new Android powered Sidekick 4g

Yes, ANDROID POWERED. Android phones are taking over. So that should make the phone ten times better than its predecessors, or at least I think so. I have an Android phone now (The T-mobile Comet) and it's great. It's powered by Google so everything is using Google, you sign in with your G-mail account and everything is linked to that. The phone comes with apps such as Maps, Navigation, New and Weather, and Places. You can pinpoint a location on the map find nearby restaurants, movie theaters, clothing stores, etc. As well as find out the Weather for today in that specific location. The News and Weather app is one of my favorites along with the Facebook app. You can use The News and Weather app for the 5-day forecast as well as the latest news in Politics, Sports, and Entertainment right on your phone. I like the Facebook app because you can quickly update your status as well as check for messages, event invites, and other requests. The are many other great features that already come with the phone and you can find other cool, fun, and helpful apps in the market(android app store).
So basically Sidekick 4g will have everything I liked about having a Sidekick and the amazing features of an android phone. AKA Those people at T-mobile are GENIUSES.

The uncomfortable truth- Nneka.

I love this song, never really listened to her though. I should, she's another one of those talented artist that have been slept on, and this song sends a message.

London

Oh how I wish to go to London someday. I want to live there for a few years. The city interests me so much, I don't know exactly why but it does. I told my mother that I want to go and of course she criticized me. She mentioned how the weather over there is gloomy and rainy all the time, just as everyone does. But I don't care, I think London is beautiful and I can't wait to go.

I blame the parents

This is a saying I say a lot and it's true. Not saying that children act like their parents but the way a person is raised can greatly determine the type of person they are. Like me for instance, I'm very stand off-ish and I don't people questioning me, I guess it's because my parents didn't really talk to me. Not that they ignored me but they weren't very invasive either and still aren't.
As a kid probably from the age of 10 my family would always watch tv together in my mothers room on the weekend. My parents would lay on there spots in the bed and my two little sisters would lay in between them. Thus leaving no space on the bed for me. If I laid at the end of the bed I probably be on someone’s feet or blocking the tv. So I’d have to site on the couch, chair, or floor and i hated it. I felt left out, which is something I feel a lot. Also my family is into sci-fi horror flicks which I am not and would watch them every Saturday. So I’d eventually walk out. I didn’t have a tv of my own then so I’d just come into my room and sit here by myself. I would probably go back to my parents room but just to walk out again. I still do it to this day. Even when I do have a spot on the bed, or when I do like the show we’re watching, when we have “family time” I just have to walk out. I can never stay still. I guess it’s a habit I developed, only now I have the internet. Now, I leave my computer on pretty much all day and I constantly come back to it. I think this means I’m not comfortable with my own family, I love them to death, but I have to be alone. Which is catching up to me, because now I feel lonely. I’ve always been the person to want to be alone w/o a problem but now I feel like there’s something missing, or someone rather. There’s a lack of communication between me and everyone I know.
When you realize people act based on the way they were raised its like an epiphany, lol. Like people who don't own up to there responsibility never had to as a child. They were probably let off easy for doing something wrong. Also people who try to get over and act everyone around them is stupid probably didn't get any attention as kids and were allowed to run wild. There is no such thing as a perfect way to raise children but it is very  important. Obviousssslyyyy

Monday, April 25, 2011

On April 25th, 2011, there will be a day dedicated to people who are battling depression and suicide and to advocate a lifestyle of unconditional love. On this day draw a heart on your wrist to symbolize that you are wearing your heart on your sleeve. Ask someone how they are doing, tell someone you love them. Nobody should have to feel so bad about themselves that they take their own life. Take this challenge, show them you care, draw a heart.

Did you know that you can cook with semen.

Before we get into it let me tell you how i found out and my reaction:

The cook book is entitled  "Natural Harvest - A Collection of Semen-Based Recipes". The paragraph next to the image of the book read:

Semen is not only nutritious, but it also has a wonderful texture and amazing cooking properties. Like fine wine and cheeses, the taste of semen is complex and dynamic. Semen is inexpensive to produce and is commonly available in many, if not most, homes and restaurants. Despite all of these positive qualities, semen remains neglected as a food. This book hopes to change that. Once you overcome any initial hesitation, you will be surprised to learn how wonderful semen is in the kitchen. Semen is an exciting ingredient that can give every dish you make an interesting twist. If you are a passionate cook and are not afraid to experiment with new ingredients - you will love this cook book!
and here is the recipe for Lemon and semen cake:
Lemon and Semen Cake
Difficulty★★★★★ (very hard)Yield12 slicesHealthiness89%Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/4 cups white sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon of semen
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 4 egg yolks, beaten
  • 4 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon semen
  • 2 tablespoons milk

  • 1 saucepan
  • 1 small bowl
  • 1 medium bowl
This is very disgusting to me. I was shocked and appalled. I once hear that semen is good for your teeth but i had no idea people were using it as a baking recipe!! In my googling I stumbled across a site called "Cooking with cum" YUCK !

DON'T B H8N ON THE HOMOS

As you can see in these images I am wearing a don't be hatin on the homos T-shirt and bracelet :). I ordered them from FCKH8.com . I think it's the best t-shirt ever made and makes the most sense. I posted about it on Facebook and some girl was all like "Isn't homo a slur". I always thought it was the slang term for homosexual. Not that it should be in the dictionary or be respected as a "real word" but still, Shut the hell up and let me wear my shirt *rolls eyes*. I'm sure she understnda what it means, and the message behind it. Would she prefer I wore a shirt that says "Please do not bully homosexuals" ?? Who's attention is that gonna grab? Personally I'm one of the people who flip the channel everytime a PSA-ish commercial comes on, cuuuz I don't really care.  Buuuuut DON'T B H8N ON THE HOMOS is straight up and to the point. It's cute funny and makes sense. It's inevitable that you get the message while looking at this shirt, JUST LOOK AT IT !. and if you don't, watch this video:

Skating around the block

The other day I had the worst possible cramps ever. I did not feel like going anywhere MISERABLE ! Then my mother sends me to the store. Now you know I wined and complained but still wound up going anyway. So I decided to ride my roller blades and bring my sister along to take pictures.
We went around the block. I felt good afterwards and refreshed in a way. It helped that the whether was beautiful. I went to the store for my mom, I didn't die, and I wasn't even in that much pain. One thing to know is that you can have fun in two minutes or 2 hours, in Brooklyn or in Miami, roller blading with your little sister or going to the mall with your friends. It's all what you make of it. Moral of the story? Stop being so damn miserable and go outside and roller blade! or at least enjoy the world around you, the best way you can. Reality TV and facebook ain't got nothin on spring time.

When life gives you lemons...

We all know the rest of this saying. Make lemonade. I guess it means that when given an opportunity take full advantage of that. Which makes a lot of sense but who's gonna hand you the water and the sugar. Better yet who's gonna give you the juicer, the ice, the pitcher, and the cups?? Didn't think about that huh? How can I make lemonade with simply lemons. Now I have a reason to make lemonade. Now I have a starting point, but it's not going to be as easy as the saying is said. Which is my problem with most sayings, proverbs, etc. Everyone says them but no one mentions the hard work. I think theres some sort of secret message behind the saying. Making lemonade is much easier said than done and if you want some lemonade you're going to have to work for it. Now all the lemon talk aside you have to work hard for everything in life. Of course we have starting points and we have potential but without hard work and dedication you have nothing. We have to be thankful for our opportunities as well as be progressive in life.

America the Beautiful

In Darryl Roberts' film "America the Beautiful", advertisers, agents, fashion photographers, magazine editors and others in the media industry deny responsibility for promoting unrealistic and unattainable body images and the consequent self-esteem issues that arise.

New York City highschool students are not prepared for college (an essay I just did for school)

The article “Most New York Students Are Not College-Ready” by Sharon Otterman discusses the state of New York City public school students and whether or not high schools are really preparing these students for college. The article states “The new statistics, part of a push to realign state standards with college performance, show that only 23 percent of students of students in New York City graduated ready for college or careers in 2009, not counting special- education students”. As a New York City high school graduate of Class of 2010, I am in no way surprised by this statement. I’ve felt for a long time that our high schools do not prepare us for college and now being a college student I know that for a fact. I honestly believe that I was not prepared for college when I graduated.
Personally, I feel that a lot a students who graduated high school in year 2010 shouldn’t have and I am one of them. Throughout high school I failed just about every class and went to summer school every year (besides the year I graduated). I also had to take a pm school class as well as a class over the following semesters. I was very lazy and really didn’t care about school work; I was upset to see the poor/failing grades but didn’t care enough to work harder, especially since I was given second chances. Since I started high school my guidance counselors and principal made it very clear, the school's main goal were not to prepare us for college but to get us out of there in 4 years. I think that the statistic: “Only 23 percent of students in NYC graduated ready for college or careers in 2009” is a fact based on of my experiences with high school and Mayor Bloomberg’s No child left behind policy. I remember when I first heard of “No child left behind” when I was in middle school, I would think “but what if a child does get left back?”, basically wondering if a student does not meet the requirement to go on to the next grade do they still go on to the next grade? I realized the answer to my question in high school. I feel that high school babies its students. Students who don’t show up class, don’t do the work, and don’t seem to care whether or not they finish high school are able to simply show up to summer school and pm school classes, get the passing grade, and graduate on time.
75 percent of student who enroll in community colleges need remedial courses. I am surprised by this statistic, mostly because I didn’t need any remedial courses when I enrolled in college. A few of my friends did and that was shocking to me, because each one of them had better grades than I did and did not have to attend summer school at all throughout high school. Also after I was accepted to Medgar Evers College I was exempt from the CUNY acceptance exam. I only needed to take an exam to determine whether I needed a remedial course for math or not, which I didn’t. Each factor I stated surprised me and they still do. I am not sure what is considered when being placed into courses but I do know that I was never very good in math. My score on the Math regents was a 75 out a 100 and I really don’t believe I did any better on the exam I had to take upon enrolling in college.
Tougher graduation standards are exactly what are needed for students to graduate prepared for college. Not that it will necessarily motivate students to work harder, but they will have no choice. With no second chances or “lee-way” students will be forced to better themselves. The High School system will be forced to improve and teach at a college level or at least the level of community college. From what I’ve heard credibility and standards of colleges do vary. Also I’ve heard rumors of the state creating an actual 13th and 14th grade. This is ridiculous our students don't need more time we need more education, a better education.
I do believe students will be more likely to persist if they have the option to choose at least one of the Regents exams they must pass to graduate. I feel that the regent exams were pointless. Passing the regents with at least a 65 was another unnecessary goal of high school classes besides preparing students for college level work. Also a score of 55 out of 100 was passing so that a student wouldn’t have to take the exam or class over. My regent scores were 69, 75, 77, 84, and 70. Each scored out 100 percent, and I was awarded a regents diploma. Which I feel means nothing, based on my grades in the classes. Given the opportunity to only take one Regents will eliminate the stress on that matter and focus the students and faculty on what is
more important.

I think that people should be fully honest just like in The invention of lying.

I stumbled across a post about this mutation and found it very interesting

Alexandria’s Genesis, a.k.a violet eyes (a genetic mutation).

When someone is born with Alexandria’s Genesis, their eyes are blue or gray at birth. After six months, the eyes begin to change from their original color to purple, and this process lasts six months. During puberty, the color deepens to dark purple, a deep purple, a royal purple, or a violet-blue color and remains that way. It does not affect the person’s eyesight.
Those who have this mutation will never grow any facial, body, pubic, or anal hair (not including hair on their head, on their ears, noses, eyebrows and eyelashes) Women also do not menstruate, but are fertile.
 Characteristics are:
  • Clear, silver-like purple eyes (after 1st birthday; deepen in color until onset of puberty)
  • No facial or body hair growth beyond what was already there at birth
  • Dark brown or black hair
  • Shimmering white skin that resist tanning and burning
  • Lack of menstruation cycle (in women)
  • Highly evolved immune system (has been known to resist every disease known to man so far)
  • Appear 5-20 years younger (after the age of 21, the aging process slows down greatly; it stops completely between the ages of 40-50)
  • Long life span (ranges from 130-170 years)
  • Perfect vision
  • Never overweight (their metabolism prevents the gaining of too much fat [a.k.a., partial lipodystophy])
  • Well-developed and proportioned bodies
  • Found mainly in women of Euro-American descent
  • Women are the primary carriers of the mutation
  • Children born from mothers with the mutation are also carriers
  • Mutation remains active generation after generation
  • Mutation grows stronger generation after generation
In ten percent of the population that has "Alexandria's Genesis," there is another characteristic of this mutation that is increasing on a yearly basis: the processing of human waste… or lack thereof. As it turns out, in some of these people, the mutation is actually causing the digestive system to produce no waste. No one has found out how this is possible, but most scientists have a theory that may explain this increasing phenomenon.
The digestion process goes through its normal procedure until the digested product enters the large intestine. It is there, scientists suggest, that the large intestine absorbs everything and uses the product to keep the body in top shape. This makes the bladder completely useless, and leaves the small intestine and rectum as just an opening. It is not much of a theory, since very little is still known about "Alexandria's Genesis."

So basically it's the best genetic mutation/birth defect ever!  I see nothing wrong with it besides the whole non-aging thing. But other people may really like that factor.

A black girl thinks about: Hip hop music & popularity

There are rock bands and rock stars who made their claims to fame 20-30 years ago and are still very relevant. Rock stars are still going on tours, still making album sales, and most importantly still making money! Their songs have the replay value and the timeless quality that make them loved all over the world by different generations and more to come. Songs like
  • "We're not gonna take it"
  • & "Girls rock your boys" by twisted sister
  • "Smells like teens spirit" by nirvana
  •  and of course "Don't stop Believin'" by Journey.
Everyone, I mean everyone knows at least two of these songs. There are many other timeless rock songs that were made popular in the 80's. The infamous 1980's. But what about hip-hip, what about rap? There are ofcourse popular/timeless raps songs. But none that have the same impact on the world or the same longevity as the rock songs I listed. A few that come close (in my opinion) are:

  • "Rapper's Delight" by Sugarhill Gang
  • "Fight The Power" by Public Enemy
  • "The Message" by Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five
  • and "Gin and Juice" by Snoop Dogg

But where are these rappers now? The only one of some relevance is Snoop Doggy Dogg but he isn't doing concert tours like Brett Michaels. (#JustSayin). Can newer rap music even be compared to those songs? Ask someone who isn't at all a fan of rap music who the best rapper alive is, they'll probably say Lil Wayne, Eminem, or Jay-Z. JAY-Z. J-EFFING-Z. But is Jay-Z even a good rapper or is he just popular? Is his spit all that spectacular or is he just rich? I honestly do not understand how and why he surpassed Nas (on the popularity spectrum). Not saying Jay-Z isn't good but Nas is better. So many talented rap artist get overlooked or slept on, so many great songs are forgotten, and who do we have representing us? Jay-Z. He's flashy, he has money, he's known, AND he has the hottest chick in the game wearing his chain. I'm sure anybody can recite a Jay-Z line right away but can't even tell me who sings Rapper's Delight or list all the members of The Wu-Tang Clan. There is no substance, no depth. This is why we are all classified negatively. This is why I can't listen to rap music, cuz you know it demeans women. This is why cars and chains are important. One mans desires were amplified to ,what seems like, defining a whole culture. So basically Hip-Hop is world wide because of the popularity, because of the flashiness, because of the money?
Bro I just want to hear good music, not go back to highschool.

A Black Girl Thinks... About her parents

Ever think random things about your parents? Like what were their lives like before you were born or what were their love lives like before they met each other. Or when they lost their virginities and who to. Not in a pervy way but just curiously. I sometimes wonder these things. Of course I'm not gonna ask my parents but I still wonder. I hope I'm not the only one, I'm probably the only one who doesn't feel comfortable asking though, lol. But seriously all of my close friends from high school seemed to have had really close bonds with their parents, whereas they could tell them anything. I, on the other hand, do not.
